Can Hypnosis help the opioid addiction problem?
You hear a lot these days about the opioid addiction problem. Can Hypnosis help?
Lets look at it. Somebody goes to their doctor. Maybe their medicine isn’t working as well as it used to. And they get diagnosed as they have become addicted to their pain medication. They take time off, lose money from work, go to rehab, and get off their opioid pain medication.
What about the chronic pain that had them on opioids to begin with? What if that was the only pain medication that provided any relief?
Their only real choice is to become addicted to another drug, or live with the chronic pain.
Can hypnosis help the addiction problem?
Most people think of a “pain center” in the brain… but there really isn’t. The nerve signals are sent up the spinal column to the thalamus. The thalamus then sends the information to the frontal cortex and other parts of the brain. The brain then filters the signal through the emotional state and past experiences. Then the brain uses all that to manufacture a “pain response”.
Here is where things get interesting…
If I injure my knee, I need pain to let me know and protect it while my knee is healing.
If I injured my knee 5 years ago and it is healed, but the pain response never gets turned off properly, I don’t need that pain.
This is where hypnosis pain management can help. Hypnosis is good with pain. But hypnosis is very, very successful treating this kind of pain, and in some cases like phantom limb pain the success rate is in the high 90% range.
So the way hypnosis can help the opioid addiction problem is by understanding the addiction isn’t the problem. It’s a symptom of chronic pain.
I can help get rid of the chronic pain. Hypnosis has one of the highest success rates for pain management there is.
Then you and your doctor can deal with your pain medication. And you can live a happy, productive, pain free life.
