What’s the first appointment like?
These are the questions I get asked the most. Most people only have an idea about hypnosis from what they have seen on TV or in the movies, and this is usually the WRONG idea. Or maybe they saw a hypnosis show at a fair or a comedy club. This isn’t anything like that at all.
Clinical hypnosis is very different, and here is how I work:
I simply don’t see anyone without first doing a phone consultation. And it’s free.
When you call me, we will discuss what you can expect. And I’ll also explain the services I offer that can help.
This is NOT a sales call. Before I see you I need to get to know you a little, find out what is going on, and make sure hypnosis is right for you. At the very least it gives me an idea of how I need to prepare for your first appointment.
And you may just have questions you need answered before you can make a decision. I don’t mind answering those at all… that’s what I’m here for.

Your first appointment!
You show up to my office, and then what happens?
Some people, especially if they are coming to see me for anxiety anyway, might feel a little nervous about their first appointment if they don’t know what to expect. So here it is.. the whole thing.
We take care of the business stuff first.
Ever go to the doctor’s office or the dentist, and fill out forms? I have a few questionnaires too, but they are short and painless. And they help me find out more about the best way for us to proceed.
We’ll also take care of the payment first. I do that because I don’t want to interrupt the post hypnotic processes you will be going through at the end of the session.
Actually, we talk quite a bit the first appointment. That’s the main thing we do. I need to find out more about the problems you are having, what’s going on with you, your “story” so to speak. And you need to find out enough about me to get comfortable with me before the hypnosis can work. There has to be a level of trust, in both directions, and getting to know each other is how we get there.
Hypnosis isn’t something that you just let happen to you. You will be an active participant in your own treatment. That being the case, I need to make sure you to understand hypnosis enough for you to help during your treatment. So I give you a pre-hypnosis talk, and make sure you understand and are comfortable with what we are doing.
After all that, then we will have a clinical hypnosis session. We will work on stress and anxiety relief, because I have found that all my clients need it anyway because we live an a stressful world. I really think if all I treated my clients for was stress and anxiety, over 90% would resolve their other problems on their own anyway. You will feel a feeling of relaxation you won’t soon forget!
Also, in the same session we will do treatment centered around the main problem.
Finally, when you come out of hypnosis you will be calm and relaxed, but very alert and aware. It feels really, really great!
I find out how it went, what you liked about it, if there was anything you didn’t… just feedback to make future sessions better.
Well, it’s not really “homework”, but I give you some self hypnosis practices to do at home, and I’l send you a link to a relaxation MP3 I want you to listen to every day. It’s mostly identical to the stress and anxiety relief we did during the session. Hypnosis is skill, and the more you practice the better at it you will become. And that makes your treatment sessions more productive for you.
And then you get to go home. See… easy, isn’t it?
How is clinical hypnosis different?
Clinical hypnosis is quite different than traditional therapy. Instead of spending years with a therapist, clients who undergo clinical hypnosis will have an efficient, fast, and reliable means of altering negative behavior.
It is important to note that hypnotherapy is not for everyone. Sometimes, people want to spend years in traditional therapy getting to know themselves and examining the roots of their behavior. Some people will even respond better to long-term non-hypnotic therapy.
Hypnosis is just one of the thousands of ways a person can achieve his goals; however, if you want immediate results, I believe hypnotherapy is the most effective tool you can use.
